PARAMETRIC DESIGN

Verkeer Space was designed to provide a gathering space for students by incorporating natural light and movement. The design takes into account the existing site characteristics of having two entrance points, while the site's circular parameters influenced the overall shape of the design, which is a dome-like structure that was manipulated to maximise sun exposure. The final shape is created with a glass triangular panelling system that allows natural light to enter from all sides, including the central hole. 

Parametric design is a way to define a form. It is part of the form finding process of a design, as it optimizes certain design goals against a set of design constraints. The relationship between elements in parametric architecture is used to manipulate the design of complex geometers and structures. For the parametric design, Rhino 3D with grasshopper was specifically used with other plug-ins, such as Ladybug to analyze weather data based on location and Lunchbox to create the structure’s frame.
